Oral Presentation

This year, there will only be a limited number of slots available for presentations. Students interested in signing up for an oral presentation must use the link on the right-upper corner of the screen. Note: Must be completed before May 5, 2016. Please note the following regarding oral presentations:

  • Student teams/individuals receiving First Place Awards will be given priority and guaranteed a presentation slot. (until May 1st)

  • Student teams/individuals receiving Second Place Awards will be given following priority and will be filled into any remaining available presentation slots after May 1st.

  • Student teams/individuals receiving Third Place or Honorable Mention Awards will be placed on a waiting list until the remaining slots availability is shown after the First & Second Place winners have been accommodated. Third Place winners will have priority over Honorable Mention winners and all available slots will be filled by May 5th.

  • Please sign up only if you are absolutely certain that you will be attending the ISDC.

Rules:

  • Presentations are limited to 10 minutes only. You will be asked to stop if you exceed the 10 minutes

  • Be well practiced so you do not go over the 10 minute time limit.

  • There will be no questions and answer (Q&A) period following the presentation.

  • All presenters on the list are required to provide a final copy of the presentation at registration. The presentation should be finished and well practiced before you arrive at the ISDC. There are two reasons for this:

  1. The National Space Society (NSS) wants you to participate in the Conference programing. We do not want you hiding in your rooms all day long practicing the presentation. The NSS hopes that you will use your time at the ISDC to attend sessions and activities that interest you, learning from the experience and networking with other attendees at the conference.

  2. NSS wants to ensure that your presentation works, ready to go, and loaded on the computer for you.

  • You will not be able to use your own computer for your presentation. To transfer your presentation to the computer provided, we recommend that you bring a "thumb or key drive" with you (remember to hand it in at the Registration Desk).

  • Presentation computers will be PCs with Windows. PowerPoint is the preferred presentation program format for the ISDC, latest versions of PowerPoint might not open in these computers. We highly recommend to save your presentation on various formats.

Tips:

  • Use a standard format like PowerPoint (preferred) for the presentation. If you are using Apple KeyNote presentations, it will need to be exported and saved as a PDF file.

  • Good presentations use mostly visuals and a few words. Remember, less is more.

  • Present only one or two points on a slide.

  • Keep it simple.

  • Never read from the slides.

  • Slides should not contain complete sentences (just key words to help prompt your memory).

  • Be well practiced. You should be able to do the presentation without the slides and without reading note cards. The slide should provide you witj all the hints you need to know what you are going to talk about.

Other:

Note: Bring at least two backups of your presentation in a PC compatible format.

To ensure that we receive the presentation , you can send a copy of your presentation to nss-students@nss.org

Remember to say "Thank You" at the end of your presentation
